Gregory Kolo, a poker pro from North Royalton, Ohio, captured his second WSOP Circuit gold ring in just as many months after winning a single-day event at Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina. The player also added $35,280 in first-place money.
Kolo took part (and took down) the $365 No-Limit Hold’em (1-Day) with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000, or Event #3 on the schedule of the ongoing WSOP Circuit festival at Harrah’s Cherokee. The player outlasted a field of 560 fellow participants to collect the piece of gold.
The 20-minute levels of the tournament provided for fast-paced action and allowed for the huge field to be reduced to a single winner within the span of several hours. Kolo secured a spot at the final table and entered that final stage of play middle-stacked. However, he gained momentum throughout final table play to eventually make it to heads-up against James Parker from Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Kolo eliminated his final opponent to grab the title, the gold piece, and the first-place prize. Parker, on the other hand, collected $21,822 for his first-ever WSOP Circuit cash.
As mentioned earlier, the $365 buy-in tournament featured a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000. The event’s massive field cracked the guarantee and organizers announced that the total amount of $168,000 had been generated in prize money before registration closed.
Second Gold Ring for Kolo
Kolo scooped his second gold piece from the series by winning the single-day event. Back in February, the player took down a $365 Pot-Limit Omaha Re-Buy tournament at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. Aside from his first-ever gold ring, the player also collected the amount of $13,860.
Of his performance at Harrah’s Cherokee, the Ohio-based poker pro said that he was running pretty well as he managed to gain great pace from well behind and eventually emerge as the victor. Kolo further told WSOP staff in his post-victory interview that his sights are now set on securing a seat into the Global Casino Championship and the upcoming WSOP.
Speaking of the WSOP, the poker pro has a gold piece from that series, too. During the 2014 edition of the world’s most popular poker festival, the player took down a $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament for a gold bracelet and a first-place prize of $169,225.
Including his latest cash from the WSOP Circuit, Kolo now has a total of $205,681 from the series and a total of $420,698 from the WSOP and WSOP Circuit.
Harrah’s Cherokee is set to play host to the WSOP Circuit through April 23, with the $1,675 Main Event being scheduled to take place on April 20-23. Later this year, the popular casino will welcome players for the Global Casino Championship, a three-day event that will celebrate the end of the series’ 2017/2018 season and the beginning of its 2018/2019 season. The prestigious tournament will take place on August 7-9 at the North Carolina gambling venue and will reward the winner with a WSOP gold bracelet.
